A Children and Young People’s Travel Service update for Parents and Carers

A new 4 year, travel framework has been established. The council now has absolute transparency on pricing and the ability to effectively amend contracts depending on the requirements.

We are currently in the process of transitioning routes to the new Framework and it is anticipated that this will contribute positively towards the council’s overspend. This will lead in many cases to changes of travel providers which will be effectively communicated to service users, parents/carers and schools/colleges.

Under the new framework, transport providers will be working to a new specification with the safety of children as a priority. Contracts will, where possible, be set up for 2-3 years as a minimum to help build relationships and keep a level of consistency we believe is important for your children.

If your child is aged 5-16 (compulsory school age) or is an adult aged 19+ your transport provider may change after the Easter holidays.

  • If there are changes to your transport provider, we will work to minimise disruption. We will make sure that you and your child are able to meet the new provider to discuss arrangements, including pick up times, before the start of the summer term.
  • We will write to you with more information in March when we’ll let you know if your transport provider will be changing and when you will be able to meet the new provider.

If your child is aged 16-18 (sixth form age) there will not be changes to their transport after the Easter holidays as a result of this framework. Changes for this group of pupils will take place over the summer holidays with new arrangements to begin in September 2024.  We will write to you separately about this.

We appreciate that any potential change in your child’s transport will be concerning. We will do all we can to minimise disruption and will make sure you are kept fully up to date. We are confident that the new framework will improve the service that we deliver to you.
