Nice – Centre for movement disorders

Description

NICE supports children and young people of all ages with movement disorders and other complex physical and developmental needs. NICE provides free support for children with movement disorders up to their 4th birthday.

At NICE, we believe that every child should be actively involved in their learning and development. We use a hands-on, practical and holistic approach, combining play, movement and meaningful everyday activities to support the whole child.

Our Conductors provide specialised, individualised support, helping children to explore what they can do, build confidence and develop skills at their own pace. We celebrate every achievement, however small, and use each child’s interests and strengths to motivate them to take part and learn.

Our approach focuses on all areas of a child’s development, including physical and motor skills, communication, learning, play, social interaction, independence and self-care. Through structured activities, movement, play and problem-solving, children are encouraged to practise skills that are meaningful and useful in everyday life.

At NICE, all staff are trained in movement disorders, and some of our staff are qualified teachers with extensive experience of working with children and young people with SEND. We work closely with parents and carers, sharing practical ideas and strategies that can be used at home and in other settings.

We are also here to listen, advise and support families. Where appropriate, we can provide information and signpost families to other relevant services, organisations and sources of support that may meet their child’s or family’s needs.

We believe that when children are given the right encouragement, opportunities and support to explore movement, have fun and succeed, they can develop skills that help them participate more fully in everyday life.

NICE offers full-time and shared School Group placements, working closely with families, schools and local authorities to develop a placement that meets the individual needs of the child. The main focus of the school is to integrate therapy and education in one place and at one time.

NICE also provides services for Adults who have Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy and those that have had a stroke. Please see website for further information.
