Summerfield Stables – Horses in the Community

Description

Summerfield Stables - Horses in the Community are a Pony Club linked member and a British Horse Society (BHS) approved riding school, training and exam centre. We deliver the BHS Changing Lives Through Horses programme which has two frameworks; the Achieve award for 5-11 year olds and the Explorers award for 11-25 year olds. Using horses as the inspiration for change, the programme provides an alternative and complementary learning environment to mainstream education. The skills developed through the programme meet the requirements of ongoing education and training, employers and participants and is linked to the national curriculum.

The programme works to develop six key life skills through equestrian activity:

• Communication
• Confidence
• Building relationships
• Teamwork
• Responsibility
• Perseverance

Needs are assessed on an individual basis and learners are supported in small groups or have the option of additional one to one support. Staff have experience of working with a wide range of children and young adults with SEN.
