Annual Learning Disability Health Checks (14+)

Young people and adults with a learning disability are entitled to have an Annual Health Check every year. An Annual Health Check takes place at the GP surgery and looks at a person’s physical and mental wellbeing. To receive an Annual Health Check, the person must be aged 14 years or over and on their GPs Learning Disability Register. The GP surgery will invite the person for their Annual Health Check and make sure any reasonable adjustments are recorded and put in place. The local NHS has produced the following animation and video which provide more information on Annual Health Checks.

Regular health checks can detect treatable illnesses and help prevent more serious ones, as well as familiarise the young person with the GP practice; which they may use throughout their adult life.
