SEND Code of Practice

Special Educational Needs Code of Practice

The Special Educational Needs Code of Practice is the guidance that all early education settings, schools, Post 16 providers, local authorities and anybody else who helps to identify, assess and provide help for children and young people with special educational needs, has to follow.

The code sets out the processes and procedures that all these organisations should follow to meet the needs of children and young people.

The current Special Educational Needs (SEN) Code of Practice published in June 2014 by the Department for Education and was implemented from September 2014. This was updated in April 2015 to include new requirements for supporting children and young people with SEN when they are detained in youth custody.
